It’s also important to note that 343 Industries is still going forward with the planned co-op campaign mode in the upcoming November 8 Winter Update, but the split-screen/local co-op mode is still done for.

As you can imagine, the Halo fanbase is in a bit of an outrage over this, some of which as boiled into the Xbox Series X reddit page. This promise was also reiterated at E3 2019, but fast-forward to today, and that promise has essentially been broken. What also makes this situation even worse is that back in 2017, 343 Industries Head Developer Bonnie Ross promised that every single Halo title would have a type of split screen local multiplayer mode. In the video, 343 Industries explains that the main reason as to why the long awaited feature was canceled in “order shift resources to other priorities” which apparently involved “experiences we’re not quite ready to talk about yet.” While this might not seem like a major issue, especially in today’s video game market with online play, the ability to play with a friend on a couch in a local area network (LAN) has been a longtime staple of the Halo franchise that dates all the way back to the very first title in 2001. But hopefully the shift in resources helps Halo Infinite get on a better release track turns out Halo Infinite’s split-screen/local co-op mode is actually cancelled /6xT8oiwSJz It’s how, I’m sure, many folks first played co-op Halo.
And while the networked version will finally be arriving soon, seeing the split-screen version get cut is a bummer. The feature has been delayed several times over, as has Forge. Season 3, meant to arrive on March 7, will include a full 100-tier Battle Pass, a new weapon and equipment, and new maps for Arena and Big Team Battle. While network campaign co-op is set to arrive in November, 343 has decided to not ship split-screen campaign co-op for Infinite. And as the team focuses on other areas, one aspect is being taken off the table.

In today’s Dev Update video, 343 head of creative Joseph Staten and head of Halo Infinite live service Sean Baron discuss the plans ahead for the FPS. This season will run through March 7, which is when Season 3 will debut. A new beta for Match XP will roll out, the Covert One Flag mode will be added, and events will be hosted in December and January. The Winter Update will also include a shorter, 30-tier Battle Pass and two new maps, Detachment and Argyle. It will also include a beta version of the Forge, Halo‘s map creation tool. Dubbed the Winter Update, this will include the campaign network co-op and mission replay previously targeted for late August. The next major update for Halo Infinite will arrive on November 8.
